Affiliate & Advertising Disclosure

We don't sell our own financial products — we explain other people's. Sometimes we earn a commission when you act on something we've covered. Here's exactly how that works, and the one thing it never buys.

How we make money

OCM Life is an independent, reader-focused publication. To fund our work, we take part in affiliate and referral programs — which means we may earn a commission or referral fee when you sign up for or purchase a product through certain links on our site or in our emails. This is always at no additional cost to you; you never pay more for using our links.

The verdict is never for sale

A commission never decides whether we cover a product, or what we say about it. Our comparisons, explanations, and judgments are made independently — and because we're a publisher, not a single institution's sales channel, we're free to cover competing products from many providers and to tell you when something isn't worth your money. If a product is mediocre, we'll say so, even when it would pay us not to.

Where you'll see it

Where we have a financial relationship with a provider, we disclose it clearly and close to the relevant content — at the top of an article or right beside the link — consistent with Canada's Competition Act and the Competition Bureau's guidance on disclosing material connections.

Sponsored content

Occasionally a company may pay to place content with us. Any such content is clearly labelled as “Sponsored” or as an advertisement, and is kept separate from our independent editorial coverage.

This isn't financial advice

Everything we publish is general information and education, not personal financial advice — and these affiliate relationships don't change that. For the full picture of what we publish and what you're responsible for when acting on it, see our Disclaimer.
